Order of the Arrow Ordeal and Work Weekend at Bomazeen
If any of your troop’s scouts were elected into the OA this past spring
have not yet attended their Ordeal, THIS IS THEIR LAST CHANCE. I have been
told there are roughly 29 candidates here in K-Valley District alone who
have not completed their Ordeal yet. If they miss this Ordeal, they will
have to be re-elected into the OA before they can attend an Ordeal. They
should have received a reminder letter before now about the Ordeal. Info
for Ordeal Candidates is also available on the Lodge website.
The Ordeal and workweekend will be held this coming weekend, Sept. 7-9 at
Camp Bomazeen in Belgrade.
To all OA members: Please attend if at all possible. Bomazeen was in the
middle of the path of that severe thunderstorm a few weeks back that
pounded Rome with 2 inch hail and 70 mph winds. None of the buildings at
Bomazeen were damaged, but we’ve got many trees down and need many hands to
help clear the brush. Remember, we are the “Brotherhood of Cheerful Service”.

Roundtables
Wed., Sept. 12 in Oakland at Mountaintop Christian Fellowship Church, Route
137 heading west out of Oakland (top of the hill), 7pm.
We are looking for a new location, but have not yet found one. We are
doing this for we have outgrown our current location thanks to all of you
who have attended in the past. Please invite a fellow leader along as
there will be a lot of info to pass on. After the general session, there
will be separate sessions for:
- Cub Leaders covering October’s Cub Scout theme
- Boy Scout Leaders covering Recruitment & Retention–open forum.
If you have some successful tips, please be prepared to share them with everyone
else. There will be some handouts available also.
KV Chapter of the Order of the Arrow also meets at this time and location.
If you have info to share, please have it printed in a flyer. We average
30 to 35 units represented at any given roundtable and 40 to 70 attendees
depending on the month. September tends to be one of the busier months.
Tue., Sept 18 at the Strong Elementary School, downtown Strong at 7pm
Can’t make it to Oakland? Then come see what Strong RTC Terri Mudie has
prepared for you. Or, if you can make both, do so!

Navy Blue Angles Air Show
By way of Steve Mudie, this may be your last chance to see Navy’s Blue
Angles Stunt Team in Maine with the pending closure of Brunswick Naval Air
Station. The air show will be held next weekend, Sept. 15 & 16. Details at:
http://www.greaterstateofmaineairshow.com/

Maine Jamboree
Preorder of Trading Post Items is Sept. 15.
“Early Bird” registration deadline for Troops is Oct. 5th: $16 per
person. After that date it’s $20 per person.
Same deadlines for Cub Scout Day attendees: $6pp before and $8pp afterwards.
Second Year Webelos may camp overnight IF they are invited by a Troop to
attend AND they camp as part of that Troop. Those who do this need to pay
the Troop fee.
If you have not yet registered, please do not wait for the deadline. The
sooner the staff knows who is going, the sooner they can start determining
who needs how much space (and it’s going to be tight, folks!).
Rick Lees is heading up the volunteers from our district who will be
staffing this event. I think he could use a few more. If you can help
out, please contact him directly at lees5@adelphia.net

I think that’s everything until roundtable. See you there or at the Ordeal!
